ERICK JAMES ABNET

A pillar of strength with a heart of gold. Erick James Abnet, 54, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 18th on his farm, doing what he loved. He was born June 26, 1971 to Greg and Josephine (Wieser) Abnet. Born with a deep respect for the land, Erick spent his life working the fields and tending to the animals he loved, building not only a thriving farm, but carrying on a legacy of hard work, humility, and generosity that he learned from working alongside his dad for many years. On May 28, 1994, Erick married the first and only love of his life, Julie Von Arx. Together they raised three wonderful children, who are the center of their world. His dedication to his faith and family were unwavering, and his greatest joy came from teaching and watching his family grow, learn and thrive. At home, his laughter filled every room, and his gentle, steady presence made us all feel whole. To know Erick was to love him. He was the nicest guy you could meet – genuine, humble and always thinking of others. He was a “top notch” guy who would lend a hand to any neighbor in need. His memory will continue to live on each and every day on the farm, and in the lives of all who were touched by his kindness. Erick is survived by his wife Julie of 31 years; his children, Aaron (fiancé Abby Jackson), Olivia (Aaron) Scafe, and Braden (girlfriend Grace Hill); his siblings, Mary Jo (Scott) Wickus, Debbie (Curt) Crane, Ellen, John (Vicki), Cheryl (Pete) Boma, Maureen (Curt) Wagner, Paula (Kevin) Rosendahl, and Dan; his Aunts Mary Wieser and Penny Abnet as well as Uncle David (Linda) Abnet and many beloved nieces and nephews. Erick was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Paul and Betty Von Arx; his brother Mike; his brothers-in-law, Stuart Reedy and Matt Von Arx; his unborn son, Joseph Gregory and many beloved aunts and uncles. Erick’s family would like to express their gratitude to the first responders, medical personnel, Houston County Sherriff’s Office, and the La Crescent Police Department, as well as our generous friends and neighbors for the gracious and loving care of our family during this difficult time. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23rd from 3 - 6 p.m. and again on Monday morning at 11 a.m. until the time of service. Funeral will be held at noon on Monday, November 24th. All services will be held at Crucifixion Catholic Church in La Crescent, MN. The family requests that memorials be given to the Future Farmers of America in Erick’s name.
