JOSEPHINE ROSE (WIESER) ABNET

Josephine Rose Abnet (Wieser), 93 passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on June 28, 2024. She was born October 21st 1930 in La Crescent, MN to Mary (Rohrer) and Joseph Wieser. She grew up in Pine Creek Valley, attended the one-room schoolhouse nearby and graduated from Aquinas High School in 1949. She often talked about being the first girl from her country school to attend high school. Upon graduating, she worked at Catholic Charities in La Crosse, WI. She married Greg Abnet, her husband of 56 years, and together they raised 10 children while farming in Pine Creek Valley. Josephine was devoted to practicing her faith and caring for her family her entire life. She was a lifelong active member of Crucifixion parish. She served many years as an election judge, was a strong pro-life advocate, and rarely missed a blood drive. Josephine was an outstanding cook and seamstress. She was always patient and provided a peaceful presence to those around her. She was a gentle, selfless soul who had time for each individual in her life. She cherished her friends and loved lunches with the “PineCreek Ladies”. She always had time for children. Dad said when she was holding a baby she was in heaven. Her deep trust in God allowed her to get through the challenges of life with grace and peace. She is survived by her dear sister Mary E. Wieser of La Crescent, MN; her brother-in-law David (Linda) Abnet of Rochester, MN; her children Mary Jo (Scott) Wickus of Akron, OH, Debbie (Curt) Crane of Elk River, MN, Ellie of Minneapolis, daughter-in-law Diane Fritsch of La Crescent, John (Vicki) of La Crescent, Cheryl (Pete) Boma of Brownsville, MN, Maureen (Curt) Wagner of Caledonia, MN, Paula (Kevin) Rosendahl and Erick (Julie) both of La Crescent, and Dan of Minneapolis; 29 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Josephine is preceded in death by her husband, Greg; her eldest son Mike; her son-in-law, Stuart Reedy; her parents and parents-in-law Charles and Angeline Abnet; her brother Al Wieser Sr; her brothers-in-law, Rich, Clinton and Charlie Abnet, and sister-in-law Rosanne Abnet. Thank you to all who cared for her, especially the wonderful staff from Mayo Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 3, at the Church of Crucifixion, LaCrescent. Father Matthew Crane will be the celebrant with Father Gregory Crane and Father John Evans II concelebrating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the church, with prayers at 8:30 lead by Father Gregory Crane. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
