JOHN REINING

John Reining, 69, of Brownsville, MN, died at his home surrounded by his family on March 20, 2024. John had fought courageously against cancer for many years. His strength and resilience to this terrible disease enabled him to spend his last years doing things he loved with family and friends. John was born on the second of December, 1954 to Frank J and Sibyl M. Reining of Caledonia. John attended Caledonia High School where he met his future wife, Joan (Voshart) Reining. The couple dated and eventually entered into marriage on November 15, 1975. The couple moved to Brownsville, MN soon after and have remained there since. John worked at Crest Pre-Cast in LaCrescent from 1985-2020. John enjoyed many activities and had many hobbies. John enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcyle. He and Joan relished times of riding, including trips to Sturgis, SD, and Glacial National Park, MT, with friends. John also loved fishing. He would go on fishing trips with family, sometimes yearly, and spent Tuesday evenings during the summer months fishing with his son Tyler, and son-in-law, Joe Myhre. John played guitar and would often spend hours "jamming" with his son, Jake Reining (who also plays guitar) and daughter, Melanie, who would often spend some alone time singing songs. However, it was summer evenings, when the sun sank low and the air was still warm, when he enjoyed a Beam and coke on the rocks, sitting on the back patio. John is survived by his loving wife, Joan; children and grandchildren: Jake (Melissa) Reining and children, Sydney, Mason, Brooklyn, and Asher; Tyler (Shelly) Reining and children, Mitchell, Ava, and Madison; Melanie (Joe) Myhre and children, Ethan, Emma, and Finley; siblings, Lois Klinkhammer, Lorna Rogich, Jane (Roger) Schmitz, Ann (Kevin) Miles, Ben (Lorene) Reining, Len (Merlene) Reining, and Mary Jo (Gary) Schulze. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Carol Welscher, and a brother, Francis Reining. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many doctors and nurses at Gundersen Health System, as well as Gundersen Hospice for their unwavering support throughout John’s Journey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am, Tuesday, March 26, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brownsville. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Monday, at St. Patrick's Breza Hall, with a rosary at 4:30 pm. A prayer service will be held at 7 pm. Visitation will also be from 10 to 11 am Tuesday before the service in the Hall. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Brownsville.
