JEAN FRANCES (GROHMAN) DEMMER

Jean passed away on June 6th 2016, at Tweeten Care Center, Spring Grove, MN. She was 79 years of age. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence (Bud) Demmer, by her son Freddie, daughter Anne Fink, her parents Anne and Walter Grohman, brother and sister-in-law William and Naomi Grohman, and brothers-in-law Jack Sanders and Paul Von Arx. Jean is survived by her daughters Margaret (Peg) Demmer (Greg Groess), Beth Adair (Destre), son-in-law James Fink and her grandchildren Michael and Daniel Groess; Laura and Charlie Fink; Sarah, Haley, Maddie and Lucy Adair; sisters Mary Sanders, Salinas, CA; Betty Von Arx, La Cresent, MN; Gretchen (Wayne) Buege, Caledonia, MN; brothers Robert Grohman (Rita) and Donald Grohman (Judy), both of Seattle, WA; and many nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Jean. Jean graduated from Loretto HS in 1954 and worked as a nursing assistant at the Caledonia Hospital until she married Lawrence (Bud) Demmer November 7th, 1956. Bud and Jean lived briefly in Washington where Bud was stationed in the US Army and briefly in Michigan until they moved back to Caledonia. Jean was a wonderful friend, mother and homemaker with many talents. She enjoyed entertaining frequent guests, cooking, baking, wallpapering, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She will be remembered for her delicious pie, hearty homemade soups, her love of storytelling, fun sense of humor and always willing to lend a hand. She enjoyed travel, reading, music, and theater. Jean valued her Catholic faith and served St. Mary’s Parish as a catechist, lector, funeral lunch committee and the Catholic Daughters. She was active in the Caledonia community teaching community education classes, serving on the zoning commission, and working many years at Ma-Cal-Grove golf course. She cherished her role as Grandma the most of all and Jean’s passion for all “her children” led her to ask Ma Cal Grove golf course to establish a “Kids Day” every Monday during the summer so that local children could learn the lifelong game. She then lobbied the county to pave the shoulders of Highway 44 so that children had safe access to the golf course without riding on the gravel shoulder of a busy highway. Jean will be remembered with a memorial service on July 30th, 2016 at St. Mary’s church in the Holy Family Hall at 9:30-10:45 AM. Mass to be held at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow graveside services after Mass in the Holy Family Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s school or to the Ma Cal Grove Junior Golf Program.
