GREGORY JAMES WEICHERT

On September 24, 2023, the Lord called home one of his favorite sons, Gregory James Weichert. Greg was born on March 12, 1940 in .LaCrosse, WI, to Leona (Burg) and Lester Weichert. Greg graduated from Loretto High School in Caledonia, MN in 1958. He then followed his heart to his true calling of working with his father at the family business, Weichert Motors in Caledonia. He married his high school classmate, Angela Dvorak in 1960 and they had one son, David Gregory Weichert. He continued with Weichert Motors until 1981 and then moved to Virginia where they resided for many years until Angie's death in 2008. Greg moved back to Caledonia, where he resided until his death. In 2012, he married Lavon (Jensen Earp) Weichert and he gained two more sons, a daughter, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, who was wary of Greg until Greg won him over with a big "Meow." Greg was widely known as a salt-of-the-earth good man whose heart was filled with love. He loved his family, his community, and his tractors. He served faithfully with the local Lion's Club, Jaycees, St. Mary's Church, participating in community events and as a volunteer fireman. He was known to be a fun-loving prankster who, together with his schoolmates, raced cars down Main Street, knocked over cornstalks, and removed Bibles from his high school classroom. Greg was blessed with a melodious voice, which he used with his sister, Mary, to entertain family and friends at many weddings and funerals. He was also quick to duet with anyone. He could brighten any conversation with his keen knowledge of motors and horsepower. Greg was preceded in death by his wife, Angela, his parents, and a brother David; brother in law, Leo Daley; and sister in law Marcia Weichert. He is survived by his wife, Lavon; his son, David; siblings, Mary Daley, Paul (Rose), Tom (Ginnie), Jim (Jennifer), Mark (Donna), and Theresa (Todd) Huff; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday, September 28th at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday at St. Mary's Holy Family Hall, with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Visitation will also be from 9:30 to 10:15 am at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Arrangements by McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.
