February 16, 1942 - October 19, 2017

Marilyn Christine Beranek, 75, of Hokah died Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Bethany Riverside Nursing Home following a 3-year battle with a chronic illness.

Marilyn was born on February 16, 1942, in La Crosse, to Peter and Elva (Stahl) Hansen. On June 10, 1961, she married Paul A. Beranek at St. Joseph Catholic Church in La Crosse, WI.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Paul Beranek of Hokah, MN; daughters Sandy (Toby) Johnson of La Crosse, WI, Linda Beranek of Hokah, MN, and Tammy (Tom) Reichenbacher, La Crosse, WI; 4 grandchildren Tim and Aaron Johnson, Maya and Ella Reichenbacher; sisters Kathleen (Norman) Martin, West Salem, WI, Elaine (Raymond) Bundt, Eagan, MN, Joanne (Dan) Ward, Holmen, WI; brothers Dave (Ilona) Hansen, La Crosse, WI, and Dale (Pat) Hansen, La Crosse, WI.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Elva Hansen.

When Marilyn married Paul, she left her family’s dairy farm and joined Paul on his farm. Marilyn cared deeply for her family and filled the farmhouse with love. She and Paul raised three strong, independent women. She was a regular fan at her children and then her grandchildren’s events. As a loving mother and grandmother Marilyn’s fabulous cooking brought joy to everyone.

Marilyn also brought joy to the places she worked and volunteered. Everyone in Hokah had the opportunity to experience Marilyn’s kindness during the many years she worked at Hokah’s bank. The students and staff of St. Peter’s School in Hokah and St. Mary’s School in Caledonia were happy recipients of Marilyn’s willingness to make a community better.

Visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Church, Hokah, MN, on Thursday, October 26 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be said at 4:30 p.m. and Friday, October 27 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by a Catholic Mass at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Bob Horihan and Fr. Pratap Reddy Salibindla will officiate and burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Marilyn’s family would like to thank Bethany Riverside Staff and Mayo Clinic Hospice Staff for their loving care of mom and their unwavering support of the family.
