Matthew Rieck Hoscheit, 43, of Caledonia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Gundersen Health System, LaCrosse, WI.

Matt was born September 1, 1973, in Caledonia, to Merlin and Jeanne (Rieck) Hoscheit. He was united in marriage to Amy Bruening on November 22, 1996, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brownsville, MN.

Matt was a brilliant and accomplished mechanic whose talents showed up in many ways, with none more important than helping brother Nick with planting, harvesting and trucking. He helped countless friends, neighbors and pullers get that ‘something extra’ from their equipment.

Matt served 23 years with the Caledonia Fire Department. His other passion was tractor pulling which brought wins, breakdowns, fixes, friends and a lifetime of joy. To be Matt’s friend meant that you were on the receiving end of his wit, wisdom and undying loyalty.

Matt is survived by his wife, Amy; 5 children, Emily, Adam, Ava, Sammy, and Ella;  mother, Jeanne Hoscheit; siblings, Ann (Joe Davis) Hoscheit, Nick Hoscheit, Mary (Greg) Schaible, Ruth (Tom) Esch, and Lynn (Nick) Schwartzhoff; mother-in-law, Mary Bruening; aunts, Lois Greer and Darlyne Hoscheit; nieces, Maria Esch, Allysha Schaible, Megan and Abby Schwartzhoff; nephews Michael and Andrew Davis; honorary son, Will Barnes; many cousins, loyal friends and his beloved dog, Bailey.

Matt is preceded in death by his father, Merlin Hoscheit; father-in-law, Francis Bruening; and special dog, Kinze.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Monday, August 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Matt Fasnacht will officiate and burial will in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Sunday at St. Mary's Holy Family Hall. There will be a rosary at 3 pm and a prayer service at 3:15 pm at the hall. Visitation will also be from 9:30-10:30 am Monday at the church.

The family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to support the children’s education.
