Dorothy Mary McCormick, age 93, of Caledonia, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia.
She was born March 27, 1922 in Caledonia to James and Alvina (Schulte) Danaher. Dorothy graduated from Loretto High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Leo McCormick on April 22, 1950 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Caledonia. Leo preceded her in death on September 23, 2000.
Dorothy and Leo farmed and raised their family in Mayville Township. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary's Parish and its Council of Catholic Women; she was active in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Mayville Pioneer Homemakers, the American Legion Auxilary, St. Mary's School, the church choir and MCCL. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed word puzzles, reading, playing BINGO, cards and traveling. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed watching the MN Twins.
She is survived by her 8 children: Mary of Owatonna, MN, John of Caledonia, Joe of St. Louis Park, MN, Dan of Caledonia, Theresa (Tim Swanson) of Woodbury, Tim of Caledonia, Carolyn (Scott) Lade of Dayton, OH, and Eilene (Dave) Peters of Minneapolis, MN; 3 grandchildren, Kira and Kyle Lade and Elizabeth Peters; 2 step grandchildren, Michael and Jenny Swanson; a brother and sisters in law, Jim and Anna Marie McCormick, Elaine Danaher, and Patricia McCormick. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Howard, Loyola, Claude and Robert Danaher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am, on Tues., Oct. 13th, at St. Mary Catholic Church Caledonia. Father Matt Fasnacht will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Monday at St. Mary's Holy Family Hall, with a CDA rosary at 4 pm and a prayer service at 7 pm. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Tues. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary's School or donor's choice. McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.
