Helen M. Konzem, 99, of Caledonia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, with her family at her side at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia. She was born July 18, 1915 in Caledonia to John and Anna (Niesen) Peters. On August 8, 1942 she married Nicholas Konzem at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Caledonia and he preceded her in death September 17, 1975.
Helen was a member of St. Mary's Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She worked as a teacher's aide with special education children and was a sacristan at St. Mary's Church; along with being a housekeeper at the rectory. She was very proud of the fact that she earned her GED in her 70's. Helen enjoyed sewing and reading and she had a strong devotion to her faith.
She is survived by her 4 children, Gregory (Paula) Konzem of LaCrescent, MN, Mary (Gary) Bubbers of Caledonia, Richard (Nancy) Konzem of Fort Wayne, IN, Gertrude (Dan) Zimmer of Sparta, WI; 2 stepchildren, Winifred Branson of Huber Heights, OH and David Konzem of Lake City, MN; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; and a great great great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, John Matthew; a grandson, Billy Bubbers; and 3 sisters, Eva Peters, Flossie Peters and Bernice Hosch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Monday, May 18th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Matt Fasnacht will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from9:30-11 am Monday at the church before the service. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Church.
