Margaret M. Becker, age 88, of La Crescent, Minnesota, formerly of Brownsville, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 with her loving family by her side after a brief struggle with cancer.

Margaret was born August 4, 1925 in Mount Vernon Township, Winona County, Minnesota to John and Agnes (Fitzpatrick) Mullen. She was raised in Brownsville and in 1943 graduated from the Caledonia High School where she recently had her 70th high school class reunion.  On May 21, 1945 she married Richard Becker at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brownsville. They lived in Brownsville for 59 years before moving to La Crescent for the last 9 years. She worked at Centurytel for eighteen years and retired in 1988. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and was proud of her Irish heritage.  Margaret and Richard enjoyed polka dancing and spent many Saturday evenings at the Concordia Dance Hall.  After retiring they travelled extensively.

Margaret will be sadly missed by her husband, Richard, of the past 68 years; three children Diane (LeRoy) Alseth of Melrose, WI, Debra Robb of Houston, MN, and Dan of Brownsville, MN; six grandchildren Sherri (Duane) Alseth, Becky (Dan) Ratkus, Craig (Sara) Conley, and Brittany, Adam, and Scott Robb; great grandchildren Austin and Caylin Ratkus, Christian, Erik, and Erin Conley, and Bradyn, Brynn, and Ryann Robb; two sisters Patricia Mullen and Bernadette Becker; a brother William Mullen; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jack, Bud, Jim, and Jerry Mullen; and sister Roseann Connor.

Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Monday, September 16, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic
Church in Brownsville, Minnesota, with Fr. Matt Fasnacht officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Caledonia.  Visitation will be 4 - 7 PM Sunday, September 15 in Breza Hall at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brownsville and one hour prior to services at the church.  There will be a prayer service at 7pm on Sunday.
