Robert "Bob" Dale Standish, 80, of Caledonia, died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 at Mayo Health Systems, LaCrosse, WI.
Bob was born August 6, 1931 in Pipestone, MN to Albert and Grace (Haubrich) Standish. He graduated from Pipestone High School in 1949 and he proudly served in the U.S. Marines for 4 years. He married Vera Krueger Jan. 19, 1957 in Chatfield, MN.
Bob worked for North West Bell Telephone for 33 years. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 191 in Caledonia and he served on Caledonia City Council and the board of directors for the Caledonia Hospital, and Camp Winnebago. Bob was active in starting the Caledonia Police Auxilary and in his retirement he was active planting trees and collecting cars.
He is survived by his wife Vera; a daughter Brenda (Dan) Steele; a son, Scott (Jenny) Standish, all of Caledonia; grandchildren, Kara, Jade, and Sean Steele and Carly and Drew Standish. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am, Sat., Oct 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 425 S. Pine, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Fri., at Holy Family Hall, next to the church, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Sat. McCormick Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
