David Richard Loomis, 50 of Onalaska and formerly of Caledonia, died of cancer on Thurs. Sept. 22, 2011,
surrounded by his family at his home. He was born July 21, 1961 in LaCrosse, WI to Richard C. and Muriel (Karels) Loomis. David graduated from Caledonia High School in 1979 and attended UWL for two years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 13 years, serving in San Diego and Japan. David married Cathy Fluekiger on Feb. 21, 1998 in LaCrosse and he worked at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center as an Orthopedic Technician.
David loved his career and valued his family and friends. He enjoyed motorcycling and music and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Onalaska, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the NRA and the Disabled American Veteran's.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy and son, Gage, and daughters, Nicole and Stephanie (Luna) all of Onalaska; his parents, Richard and Muriel Loomis of Caledonia; his mother in law, Irmgard Fluekiger; his brother, Daniel (Sharon) Loomis and his niece Misty and many aunts and uncles .
He was preceded in death by his father in law and beloved aunts and uncles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 pm on Sunday, Sept. 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial with military honor given by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and American Legion Post 191 will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Sat., Sept. 24, at McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm and also 1:30-2:00 pm Sunday at the church before the service.
