Celesta Margaret Sullivan, 90, of Caledonia died suddenly Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, in LaCrosse, WI.
She was born May 7, 1921 in Caledonia to Philip and Cecelia (Ernster) Burg. She graduated from Loretto High School and attended beauty school in the twin cities. She returned to Caledonia and worked with her sister, Cordula Brady and then purchased the beauty shop from Cordula and operated it until her marriage. She married James Sullivan November 23, 1946 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1994. Celesta was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Mary's Church and its Council of Catholic Women.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary (Tom) Nielsen on Inver Grove Heights, MN; 2 sons, Joseph (Kathy) and John (Grace), both of Caledonia; a daughter in law Mary (Richard) Leary of Caledonia; 16 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and a brother, Aloysius Burg of Waukon, IA.
A Mass of Christain Burial will be at 11 am, Tues., May 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends and family may call from 5 to 7 pm, Mon. at McCormick Funeral, 205 East Main, Caledonia, where a rosary will be said at 7 pm. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tues.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Bill and Rick; a daughter, Jane; a grandson, Mark; a brother, Arnold Burg; and sisters, Armella Palen, Cordula Brady, and Leona Weichert.
