Nora Murphy, 89, of Caledonia, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, LaCrosse, WI. She was born August 8, 1921 in Caledonia to John and Nellie (McDonald) Giblin. She graduated from Loretto High School in 1938. Nora moved to Illinois and worked in food service . She married Arnold Murphy on October 25, 1947 at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Evanston, IL. He preceded her in death in 1988. She was a dedicated foster mother in Illinois. Nora and Arnold moved back to Caledonia after they retired and Nora volunteered at the elementary school reading to school children. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and its Council of Catholic Women and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
She is survived by a son, John (Kathy) Murphy of Buffalo Grove, IL; 2 grandsons, Tom and Daniel Murphy; a brother Ed, (Doris) Giblin of Caledonia; and nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Giblin and a brother and sister in law, John and Alice Giblin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am, Monday, May 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Brownsville, MN. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Monday morning before the service at the church.Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Parish. McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.
