Monica Weis, 103, of Caledonia, died Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia. She was born April 24, 1907 in Caledonia to Peter and Katherine Esch. She married John Weis November 25, 1926. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1976.
Monica and John farmed in Caledonia for many years, after that she worked in LaCrosse at Allis Chalmers and Modern Laundry. In 1957 Monica purchased Frankies Inn in Caledonia and operated it until 1972, when she sold it to her son Clayton. After two years of retirement, she went into business once again at the Coffee House which she operated until 1985 when she retired at the age of 78. Many people in the area always remember Monica for the great recipe for chicken she served at Frankie's Inn. She loved the challenge of a good card game with family or friends, and enjoyed going to a casino and playing bingo. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Parish, Caledonia.
She is survived by her three children; Clayton (Carol) Weis of LaCrosse; Rita Chouinard of Prescott, WI, Kathryn (Howard) Gillen, LaCrosse; 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one infant daughter, Caroline, and 5 brothers, Hubert, Leo, Heron, Valentine, and Arnold, and a sister, Eva.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am, Thurs, April 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.
