Marvin M. Rollins, 84, of Cresco, formerly of Caledonia, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco.
He was born August 3, 1926 in Menomonee, WI to Charles and Grace (Wheaton) Rollins. He served in the U.S. Navy as a boiler tender from 1944-46 in the southeast Pacific. Marvin worked most of his life as a draftsman for Minneapolis Moline and John Deere. He lived in Cedar Falls,IA, Hot Springs, AR, and Cresco.
Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering with cars and inventing things like the car top carrier and dental floss holder. He also enjoyed college team sports and played basketball and tennis. Some of his nicknames were Rocket, Sliver, and Rock.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Robin Emerson and Kandice (Ryan) Becker both of Cresco; 2 sons, Mark (Ede) Rollins of Decorah, IA and Joel (Nancy) Rollins of Claremont, MN; 7 grandchildren; a great grand daughter; 2 brothers, Chuck (Leota) Rollins of Caledonia and Moe (Lorraine) Rollins of South St. Paul, MN; and a sister, Harriet Kirk of Richfield, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be at 2 pm on Sunday, January 9, at McCormick Funeral Home, 205 East Main, Caledonia, MN. Pastor Mark Bengston will officiate and burial will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia.
